A Life Remembered

Patrick M. Hennessy

August 9, 1979 —March 2, 2026

A glimpse of who Pat was — in the words of the people who loved him.

A tremendous soul — the kind of person who genuinely brightened every room he walked into. It sounds cliché to say, but with Pat, it was undeniably true. He had a rare gift for connection. His worlds constantly overlapped: friends from the legal field, the Tacos crew, Binghamton friends, Albany friends, Phish fans, the Jordan-Elbridge crowd, family — somehow everyone ended up knowing each other, and the common denominator was always Pat.

Music was one of the great passions of his life, and more importantly, he wanted to share it. He had a talent for turning people from every walk of life into jam band fans, convincing them to travel to concerts, dance barefoot in the grass, and lose themselves in the experience alongside him. Whether it was Phish, a basement jam session, or a late-night guitar by the fire with a bottle of scotch nearby, Pat lived fully in those moments.

He created traditions and experiences that people will talk about forever: quarterly steak nights, midday golf rounds that somehow became mandatory, frisbee golf battles, Adirondack weekends, random sporting competitions, and countless nights spent at places like Tully’s, Delmonico’s, Change of Pace, Shifty’s, and of course, Maxwell’s. Maxwell’s especially became an extension of Pat himself — a place where he’d casually jump in with the band, guitar in hand, and disappear into the music.

Pat loved competition more than he ever let on. Whether it was darts, billiards, or some made-up backyard contest, he knew exactly how to get under your skin while keeping everyone laughing. He was also a tremendous attorney, and that skill bled into everyday life. He loved a good argument — usually sincere, occasionally just for sport. Sometimes he’d take a position purely to stir the room, like passionately arguing that Taylor Swift was more influential than The Beatles, just to watch the reactions unfold.

More than anything, Pat showed up for people. He was the best man in many weddings, but more importantly, he was the kind of friend who acted like a best man every single day. To so many kids, he became “Uncle Pat.” He was adored not only by his friends, but by their wives and families as well — often as much as, if not more than, the friends themselves. He genuinely loved taking care of people. Sometimes to his own detriment, he rarely said no and was always willing to help, listen, show up, or make someone feel included.
